Membership
Unlike other financial institutions that make money to benefit their stockholders, credit unions exist solely to meet the financial needs of their members. We're cooperatives-nonprofit, democratically run organizations of people who have banded together to give ourselves a better deal.
How much of a better deal? According to independent studies, you can save between $200 and $500 a year just by belonging to a credit union. And the more services you use, the more you save! And, our members' deposits are federally insured to $100,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). IRAs are insured to an additional $100,000.
Washington Postal Employees FCU serves postal employees within the District of Columbia and their immediate families. Membership starts when you open a share (savings) account. This is a basic dividend-earning savings account. Once you join, you can take advantage of any other service. Everyone in your immediate family is also eligible to join!
To become a member, call 202-636-4530 or print out an application and bring it (along with a $50 minimum deposit, plus a $1 processing fee, to open the account) to:
Washington Postal Employees FCU 900 Brentwood Road, NE Washington, DC 20066
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PROCEDURES FOR OPENING A NEW ACCOUNT
To help the government fight the funding of terrrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.
What this means for you When you open an account, we will ask you for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.
